Post by gdead65 on Wed Feb 09, 2011 9:02 am

Just got this game yesterday (company of heros for PC) and went through basic training, got slaughtered in my first skirmish. What a great game! (wow- came out in 2005 and i have just discovered it??)

Due to delays (primarily in finding an admin to lead the branch) the DFA CoH branch will start up this weekend.

Until then, you should get Steam as that is what we use to communicate in-game (you can pull it up in-game and chat using texting and voice as well).

I'm glad you like it! It's a really good and cheap investment for so much utility in return Smile

Yeah its an awesome game, bro! You REALLY REALLY need to go to gamereplays.org and check out all of the strategy content there. There are literally enough guides to keep you reading for weeks. Its all awesome stuff. I used to be on the strategy team there and its amazing how useful all that stuff is. Also, look through the strategy forums where members discuss tips, strategies and stuff like that. There are a gajillion little things in CoH to remember. That's what makes it so awesome!

And don't worry about getting annihilated your first time online. You will for awhile. :P But you can always play against the AI and dumb down the difficulty. Thats really useful for learning the maps, the commander trees, tech trees, unit upgrades, micro and so forth. Smile

can I give you a great tip for ingame chat?

XFIRE; its like MSN but for ingame.
You can also make Screenshots with it, and capture unlimited video recordings with it (unlimited, but depending on quality you've set, it can eat space)

Is it really that old now, the graphics and effect hold up pretty well.

I used to use XFire, but it doesn't have voice chat as far as I can remember.

We'll be playing CoH in a couple of hours. Last night there were 6 of us, and you're welcome to join in.

I will certiantly give the other apps a try..but does any one use Teamspeak? thats what i use for the Flight Sim....
I have started reviewing some of the gr8 content on gamereplays. You guys who put in the time there THANK YOU! (thank god I cannot access it from work...i would never get anything done!).

Is there a basic strategy article available? With RTC games, I never know whether to build like crazy then move out (ala age of empires)

We can run you through the basic stuff in-game if you'd like, gdead.

We are considering using Ventrilo, it is very convenient with all the channels and I have experience running it, but Max seems to have a hard-on for the Steam voice chat.

not necessarily the chat, just a raging hard on for Steam in general.
