It would be great it BF3 makes top of the charts, however I actually might be more beneficial if they come in a little lower in the bracket. Not dead last, not even in the middle, but maybe top 5-10. That way DICe goes "Holy shit my Swedish bretheren we made top 5 selling games! Lets work our fucking pants of for the next 2-3 years until we create the most epic friggin game to ever be created by mankind!"

Because if they get first they would be like "Holy shit we got 1st! Suck it CoD!!! Ok guys who wants to make more money by pumping out lots of shitty 1 year production titles!!!w000t! Selling out FTW!!!"

So yeah, firsty would be nice, but maybe not best for everyone in the long run...also think about it, the higher up BF gets, the more 12 year olds we have to play with =(

Anyone remember how great CoD was before everyone discovered it.CoD2 was awesome, CoD4 was looking even better. It was great during the beta and there was a solid month and a half after release when it had a relatively small, mature player base. T'was the best shit ever. Then Christmas hit and brought with it the uncouth masses. CoD was never the same after that....*sniff* Sad

Lesson learned, pubs are a blast while consoles are still new and prohibitively expensive/in short supply (sweet PCs are always prohibitively expensive). I'll blame Activision for destroying game quality with popularity. EA used to be guilty of that too, but with things like Mass Effect and Dead Space being so polished, they've turned around considerably.

If they come to low in the bracket of top games it could very well put them off making more in the series, not really sure if thats a big thing though.

I dont think game companies will stop manufacturing their games if they dont get first in the top bracket. I'm saying if they land in the top 10 it might be more beneficial than them landing in first.

Also, if they get first it means they would try repeat their current formula of upgrading their engine etc, so I suppose I have to disagree with your thinking. Even though I do see your point. Smile

The year I went to film school (2005) was the first year that the video game industry passed the film industry just in pure $$$ spent by the consumer.

So like a film production, ultimately, if they can market and sell their film - er, game, and make a profit, they're happy and will continue to do so.

Efforts to make a great film (er, game) vs a mediocre film (er, game) usually just depends on the production team involved, their pride in their product, their aesthetic, etc. Production teams in film that do well or make an award-winning product, etc., tend to work together again, unless some stupid higher-up makes executive decisions that torpedo such things...

I am no expert on the video game industry though.
