    Do you value your life?

Post by riafomh on Sun Apr 03, 2011 11:03 am

Here's an idea for an event I'd like to try:

One time PsychoKarma mentioned something like this, and I've often thought about it myself.

They did A LOT of research on this (my close friend is a Military Historian, has a degree and everything), on combat soldiers during WWII, using the After-Action-Reports.

Did you know that something like 65%, or even 85-95%, of all the fighting was done by only about 30% of the men? (Usually the veterans) The rest just sort of hid behind a rock or something and if they did much of anything at all they just fired their weapons blindly from around cover at the enemy without really looking. (Remember Private Blithe from Bad of Brothers, anyone?)

That's because IRL, we actually have some sense of SELF-PRESERVATION. It is totally unnatural to stick your head up with all that lethal metal flying around.

So if Battlefield were like that, we'd all actually care about not just getting popped right away.

So what if there were no Medic-Revives allowed, and also no Squad-Spawning?

That's right, you die and you have to Re-Spawn only at your base. Medics could still puke out Health Packs, but no Reviving anybody... And you'd have to hump your ass back to the front.

Still want to stick your head out and look for that sniper?

    <After-Edit>

Here's the basic ruleset from my post down further:

    - Harcore
    - Limited # of respawns
    - Only respawn at your base; no squad respawns
    - Only allowed to puke out 1 Ammo box
    - Only allowed to revive 1 person
    - Only allowed to be revived once
    - Defenders # of respawns calculated the same as for attackers.

How to calculate # of respawns: Take the total # of tickets (for defenders pretend it's the same number) and divide by how many players on your team. If it doesn't divide evenly, then the left over amount can be used only by the last members left alive that match that count. For example, in a full size game with 75 tickets, if you had a full team of 12 players, then each member can be revived only 6 times. The 'left over 3 tickets' can only be used by the LAST 3 members alive. In a Squad Rush game, the 20 tickets divides evenly between 4 players (5 each), but if you only had 3 members, they'd get 6 respawns each and the last 2 men alive would get those last two.

All the 'counters' reset after M-Comms destroyed and next set (or one, if Squad Rush) open up.

It would be up to the responsibility (and honor) of each individual to track their own situation; if you get revived a second time by accident you need to suicide out immediately (and this would not count against that Medic's one revive). Same goes for other 'accidents'; if you accidentally puke out a second Ammo box, you should have to suicide out immediately, losing a ticket, having to respawn at your base, etc. DEFENDERS should not 'cheat' this rule.

If you run out of ammo, and there are no boxes nearby, then you'd better go find someone's kit on the ground, or sharpen your trusty knife or something...

Here's a roster to find out who's interested:

    - riafomh
    - gdead
    - cmbtking
    - Dolo

Blithe was the one who went temporarily blind correct? I think a more intense gametype would be no respawning at all, granted it may not work out all that well in this game. When Gears of War first came out it felt so intense since you only had on life per round. Being the only man standing against a full team was always quite exhilarating.

P.S. This would also be a nice way for people to get better at not getting killed, with a much stronger focus on moving from hard cover to hard cover, while looking out for your squadmates.

Yeah, what I was thinking, too...

Yeah, Kane & Lynch was like that; except when you died you came back (again with only 1 life) as the Cops or the Bank Guards or whatever, and you went after your former mates (pretty cool actually).

Could also limit it to only 1 re-spawn, or 3 re-spawns, or something... Or take the # of tickets and divide it by the number of players, and that's how many re-spawns you get (rounded up). So for 75 (Rush) tickets, if you had a full team of 12 players, that'd be 6 rounded to 7 re-spawns each. Or perhaps only those alive at the end get to use the left over 3 tickets...

On Squad-Rush, it works out evenly between 4 players, at 5 re-spawns each.

I'm beginning to think this is a really cool idea, and a good training session also...

    I hope they do :cyclops:

All seriousness, Battlefield should make a gamemode like that, a (team)deathmatch with 1 life, no revives, no noobtubes (rocket launchers, not the "noobtube" grenade launcher)

    That would make shit intense

Yeah, since we're going for the 'realism' here, then there should also be no Ammo boxes, either.

That means you only get the 40mm and Hand-Grenades you have on hand at the beginning, and when they're gone, they're gone. Learn to conserve ammo.

If there's no revives, you CANNOT have 'Nade spamming going on, either.

Or maybe it could be limited to ONLY 1 AMMO BOX/PERSON, per game. (So everybody will of course re-spawn as an Assault at least once, to get their ammo-box out there...)

Sure, it means you sacrifice some other spec to do so.

If you(ria) want to I could create it and with your help we will create all the rules to make it realistic(both like IRL and for "keeping the rules").

Yes please Tim that would be cool. There's so much going on right now though I'd suggest waiting for the Calendar to get into full use and then you can see when the best date would be to 'drop it in there'.

But yeah, not too soon, and not too distant future, okay?

Sounds like you guys should write to Dice about this.

Call of Duty had this aspect of one life 'Search and Destroy',it was good, but some games you played for 1/2hr.

I will get tpgheter with ria and we will worke it all out, in worst case we could joine one team each and just make sure people are following the rules.

Like counter-strike! That's the first FPS I was really into and if you died, that was it, you just had to spectate for the rest of the match. It really made you consider your weapon loadout, check your corners and work with your team, because nothing sucks more than getting popped in the first 30 seconds and then just watching for 10 minutes. lol.

    Of course.

KennyMcKillmick wrote:This will be a pain in the youknowwhat to keep the rules
Well, I assume the 'honor system' will be in effect; in other words only people who really want to give this a try along with all its inherent conditions are going to be the ones who play, anyway.

Doing it to get the 'experience' of it, right? So why would anyone play this and then not stick to it? Unless they're a douche-bag with no honor, I suppose...

    Probably work best.
